NotebookLM: Audio summaries now available in German
Google's NotebookLM is one of the most underrated AI tools: you upload documents, PDFs, or web pages, and the tool becomes an expert on exactly those sources. Hallucinations are rare because the AI only answers from your material.
The new feature: Audio Overviews in German
NotebookLM generates a two-voice conversation from your sources (two AI voices discussing the content). Previously English-only, now also in natural-sounding German.
Practical use:
- Learning on the go: Listen to scripts, papers, or books as a podcast
- Meeting prep: Turn long reports into 10-minute audios
- Research: Have multiple articles summarized and listen while jogging
Privacy note: According to Google, NotebookLM does not use your uploaded sources for model training. Still: don't upload sensitive personal data or trade secrets — an upload remains a cloud upload.
How to start: notebooklm.google.com -> new notebook -> add sources -> top right 'Audio Overview' -> select German -> generate. The audio usually takes 8-15 minutes.
